課程簡介 Designed for advanced students of second language acquisition and foreign language pedagogy, this course focuses on (1) the linguistic and psychological issues/problems in current SLA research; (2) background on the historical development of the field; (3) analysis of learner data; and (4) reading/critiquing research articles in SLA. Students in this course will prepare seminar presentations from the readings and will be guided to identify relevant SLA theories vis-à-vis their research interests.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Designed for advanced students of second language acquisition and foreign language pedagogy, this course focuses on (1) the linguistic and psychological issues/problems in current SLA research; (2) background on the historical development of the field; (3) analysis of learner data; and (4) reading/critiquing research articles in SLA. Students in this course will prepare seminar presentations from the readings and will be guided to identify relevant SLA theories vis-à-vis their research interests.

 

COURSE GOALS:

1.     to understand how the field of SLA has developed historically, as well as current research;

2.     to understand the issues and problems in current SLA research and theory;

3.     to understand the terminology and important figures, and important studies in SLA;

4.     to understand basic ideas of SLA research articles;

5.     to understand the connection between theories and teaching;

6.     to develop your own theory of SLA (or identify the kind of theory you most identify with)
