課程簡介 This course aims to familiarize the students enrolled with the fundamental concepts and the basic skills required for doing linguistic analysis. It is hoped that with these concepts and skills the students will be better equipped both for more advanced linguistics courses and as a competent English teacher.

二、教學大綱

教學進度與主題

I. Goals:

This is a two-semester course designed to (1) introduce students to the important theoretical concepts and empirical findings of modern linguistics and (2) acquaint them with proper approaches to language study. It focuses on fundamental matters in phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, language change, and the interrelationships between linguistics and other disciplines. There is emphasis on linguistic data drawn from English, Chinese and a number of other languages to serve as instances in illustration of the theories. Besides, exercises are provided for students to complete.

II. Course Requirements:

1.  Attendance is required for this class. Absence without a proper excuse may result in failing this course.

2.  This course has several quizzes, mid-term and final exams.

3.  Grading Policy:
