Studyvocabularyactively.ThisisessentialtotheadvancementoyourEnglishproficiency.Makeuseoftheglossary(definitionofvocabulary)atthebackofthetextbook. Afterreadinganewsstory,youshouldlearntosummarizeitinyourownwords(thisisaskillcalled“paraphrase”). Classactivitiesmayincludethefollowing: --paraphrasinganewsstory --goingoverdifficultwordsandsentences Requirements. Conscientiouspreparation,regularattendance,andactiveclassparticipation. Choicebetweenanoralpresentationandareadingresponse.Thosewhochoosetogiveapresentationshouldsignupatthebeginningofthesemester(seeclasssschedulebelowforweeklytopics).Makeaten-minutepresentationonthe“spotlightnewsmediaoftheweek.”Avoidmeanderingonthewebsiteofthenewsagencythroughthose“menus.”Alternatively,youmaychoosetowritea400-wordreadingresponsetoanyassignednewsarticlewereadthisterm.Turnitinanydaybeforethefinalexam.
