課程簡介 Initially, we will ask for the reasons of the dislocation of the artistic centre from Florence to papal Rome at the beginning of the sixteenth century and study the historical and cultural background of the new development. In case studies, principal works of art (painting, drawings, and sculpture) of the era’s great masters—Bramante, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo et alt.—will be analyzed. After having discussed Central Italian artistic movements, we will study Venice and the Veneto with the main protagonists Giorgione da Castelfranco, Titian, Veronese, and Tintoretto. Students will get an overview of artistic developments with the intention to qualify them to independently classify and attribute works of art. Specific attention will be paid to the practice of analytical description of the works of art. Apart from this, different methodological approaches will be discussed and practiced. Furthermore, critical reading of sources (Giorgio Vasari, The Lives of the Artists, 11550, 21568; Leonardo, Treatise on painting) will be trained, thus examining the interaction of theoretical writing and the development of artistic practice.
