先修課程
課程簡介 This course addresses three key aspects of contemporary curatorship globally—collection management, exhibition development, and professional collaboration, as well as issues of particular relevance in the Asia Pacific. The first section (sessions 2–6) deals with curatorship of collections—beginning with the historical development of the role of the curator in public museums with collections, before looking at the acquiring, researching, cataloguing, conserving, and de-accessioning of artworks. The second section (sessions 7–10) focuses on exhibition development—beginning with a brief history of major recurrent international exhibitions, including the Paris Salon, the Royal Academy of Arts exhibitions, the Venice Biennale, and documenta. Then we will consider the varied scholarly, economic, social, and political aims of the many kinds of exhibitions staged today—whether large or small, recurrent or one-off—and how exhibition conception and execution contribute to these ends. The third section (sessions 11–13) concerns curators’ working relationships, with artists, academics, and communities. Demands on public- sector curators have grown significantly in recent decades. In addition to traditional expectations that curators have expertise about collections, curators are increasingly asked to contribute to attracting and engaging with large and diverse audiences. The fourth section (sessions 14–16) attends to issues for curatorship in Taiwan, including alternative and emerging forms of curatorship in Taiwan, curatorship of Indigenous Taiwanese art, and curating Taiwanese art internationally, at the Venice Biennale, documenta, and the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, among other forums.
