課程簡介	It is hard, if not impossible, to find any issue and phenomenon of global significance extraneous to the field of biopolitics: from war of/against terrorism, mass migration, public health, epidemics to cyborgian, posthuman technological life. Today, the fact that life is always inscribed in power relations, knowledge, technologies and so on has entered its critical moment more than ever. Contemporary biopolitics concerns more than a shift of power mechanism and regime; its hegemonic, more intrusive or even oppressing assertions confront us the ethical imperative to rethink “life” existentially and ontologically. Through close reading of such major thinkers as Foucault, Rancière, Badiou, Butler, and Esposito, students acquire solid understanding of the fields of biopolitics and bioethics, and learn to develop a sophisticated theoretical framework for critiquing discourses on risk society, culture of fear, contagion and disease.
