課程簡介	Students taking this course will be oriented into the various trends (i.e. supernatural, body, domestic, serial-killing narrative) and motifs (i.e. excess, metamorphosis, liminality, perversion, and evil) of horror genre. Horror classics by H. P. Lovecraft, Alfred Hitchcock, Stephen King and Jonathan Demme will be studied in detail through the theoretical, critical frameworks of Franco Moretti, Slavoj Žižek, Mladen Dolar, Joan Copjec, Barbara Creed and Richard Kearney. Reading materials are chosen with a view to both “theory and practice” of horror genre and arranged according to various topics. Not only psychical realm but also political, ethnic, moral and techno-cultural agendas constitute the main concerns of this course. Developing students’ competence in textual analyses and critical, theoretical thinking is the major objective of this course.
