課程簡介	This course will focus on the comparison between Mandarin and Southern Min syntax in three major areas: negation and question, word order, and noun phrases. Since it will be couched in Chomsky’s Principles and Parameters theory (1981), several meetings in the beginning of the course will be devoted into the discussion of the framework and the significance of such an approach for dialectal studies. They will be followed by the discussion of the papers related to the three areas. Students who are not familiar with the theoretical framework are strongly encouraged to prepare themselves by studying it.
