課程簡介	This course aims to investigate a variety of contemporary British novels which tackle the issues of ethnicities, immigration, ageing, and urban space. By focusing on the themes, forms, narrative techniques, styles, cultural contexts, influences of these writers and their works, this course intends to guide students into a full-scale reevaluation and redefinition of the concept “Britishness.” While valuing a comprehensive study of the selected writers and their works, we highly encourage students to boldly explore new perspectives and methodologies to approach the assigned texts critically. We hope in the course of the whole semester’s intensive brainstormings, discussions, and peer critiques, students may come to realize that what we understand as contemporary, what we think it means to be British, might be issues subject to changes, debates, and disagreement.
