課程簡介	“The giant Asian climate system is largely described in the context of monsoonal climate. What makes the Asian monsoon so powerful is well-known: the combination of thermal contrast between the World’s largest landmass, i.e. Eurasian continent, and the Indo-Pacific Ocean basin and the presence of the World’s largest ridge, the Tibetan Plateau. In addition, the positive feedback with hydrological processes further amplifies the monsoon circulation and causes a great deal of varibility. In this sense, the surrounding desert regions and the nearby Mediterranean climate over the subtropics are merely the “twin” to the monsoon climate, as both are produced by the Asian monsoon system (cited with trivial modifications from the preface of above textbook).” This course will provide students the updated scientific progresses made in recent decades to understand the Asian monsoon climate, and its variability in both space and time domains.
