課程簡介 Globally, we are confronted by “grand challenges” such as climate change, economic volatility, food insecurity, and migrant crises that need diverse stakeholders to take collective effort (George et al. 2016). Organizations can help address these vexing problems through social responsibility and sustainability practices. The concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) has grown in significance over the past decades (Carroll & Shabana, 2010) and there is an increased call for companies to take on more responsible practices in regards to social and environmental impact. For what constitute as a good business, corporate governance is the cornerstone. Built on strong values and principles, a good corporate governance signals an ethical organizational culture that can help a business thrive to succeed. Coupled with CSR engagement, companies can embrace wider social responsibilities and contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs) that were adopted by the United Nations in 2015. This course introduces students to the key concepts corporate governance, CSR, and sustainability. The goal of the course is to provide a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the concept and application of social responsibility in business and organizational settings. The format of this course comprises of lectures, case studies, group discussions, seminar-style discussions, and weekly presentations.
